Patent abstract
A method of chemically functionalizing a sensor for detecting antigens of antibodies comprising the steps of preparing a sensor suitable for detecting analytes within a fluid, said sensor comprising a substrate made of a material 𝑀, and placing in contact, for a time 𝑡𝐹, the substrate with an aqueous functionalizing solution having a predetermined concentration 𝐶𝐹 of a functionalizing substance with obtaining a modified substrate. Specifically, the functionalizing substance has a molecular structure comprising a head group designed to form a covalent bond with the 𝑀 material of the substrate, a core group consisting of a hydrophilic polymer and/or a zwitteronic polymer, and a tail group consisting of a carboxylic group. In addition, the method involves the steps of placing the modified substrate in contact, for a time 𝑡𝑆, with an activating aqueous solution having a predetermined 𝐶𝑆 concentration of a substance suitable for activating the carboxylic group, resulting in an activated modified substrate, and place the activated modified substrate in contact, for a time 𝑡𝐴, with an aqueous antibody solution containing a predetermined concentration 𝐶𝐴 of an antibody, resulting in a functionalized substrate exposing the antibody.
